I came across this blog searching the web for random things and was pleasantly engrossed in her blog. Besides the lovley pictures she takes, her stories kept me interested in wanting to read more. I found these Japanese craft books at a Japanese store that has a section that sells books new and used. The first picture is children's furniture made out of recycled milk cartons which they stuffed first with newspaper, then put together and held together with glue and tape. It seems that no sewing was done. Glue was used to attach the fabric to the cartons. A great way of getting rid of some junk.

Coinpurses that I have been working on. I made more with more lively color scheme but no pictures as of yet. We have a fish bowl with a orange goldfish and this is where the idea kind of came about. The shape of the fish bowl led to the shape of coinpurse and the scallops representing water. I love scallops.

It has been quite hot lately with nice blue skies that I had to take my girls to the beach so that they could have fun cooling off in the water and playing in the sand. Sunscreen is a must!! We tried looking for sea shells but with no luck.

Here is a tote I made for myself. I used a vintage fabric that I found. It is a linen print...this was actually a hard fabric to work with for some weird reason. When I cut the fabric, it was a little off.

I found this table at the Goodwill store and it only cost me $30. I am planning on painting it but not sure on what colors and I think I want to change the handles.
Tates artwork is displayed above it. There is a picture of our bunny that she drew...a new addition to our family...my favorite.

I had the pleasure of meeting Leanne through Etsy. She designs fun and colorful textile prints. I absolutely love the print with the campers! I made her a tote using her lovely print. With the what little extra fabric I had left over, I made her a matching pouch to go with it. If you can guess, it's the middle part of the tote that has been cut out. I came up with this pattern before falling asleep one night. I originally was thinking tic tac toe, so at first it was going to be hearts with x's. That did not come out as I hoped so I used circles instead. I am much happier with the outcome. I used the spoonflower website to print out my design onto fabric but the color was a little different. I am going to try adjusting the colors again and see what how that will turn out. The hard part is waiting.

I have been working on some bags and I finally got the chance to finish them. The process from completing the bags, to getting the photos taken takes a really long time. I usually make my patterns, cut, and sew at night. After my girls have fallen asleep. Then when I finally get the bags done...it takes me another day or so for the photo shoot and editing. The television is definitely a distraction...I hope you like my new totes....^_^....

I am working on a new tote with a scallop bib. I just finished sewing the fabric covered buttons to the bibs and added a contrasting white stitching to the scallop bib. Next step is to sew this onto my tote and I'll be done.

The one that really caught my eye was the paper folding houses and stores from this Japanese website called PAPER MUSEUM. It's free to download. Just print and fold away!

We were invited to go on a submarine for a birthday party. It was our first time on a submarine, the ride going to the submarine was just as fun as being on the submarine. We got to see some wreckage and a lot of marine life. The submarine ride lasted for an hour...it didn't seem that long though. Later we enjoyed good food at Tanaka of Tokyo...where they cook the food you order in front of you...that style of dining is called Teppanyaki...the chef we had was really fun...the kids had a great time!!!

I came across this website cubeecraft which has a lot of characters that can be printed on your printer, then cut out the pieces and fold. It has a rating system that tells you the difficulty of the projects but most seem to be quite easy. Check it out! I plan on making a few.

The kids went to their first pony birthday party. They had a lot of fun playing with the other kids and riding the cute pony. It was so hot that day! We enjoyed good food and good company!

At first I made this bag without the heart appliqués but then when I finished them, I thought they looked tooo plain. As you can probably tell by now, I have a thing for hearts...so I added some heart appliqués. I am much happier with the final look ^_^!

Yay! I just finished another handbag. I am really happy on how this bag turned out. The handle part of the bag was a lot more trickier than I thought it would be but I was patient and actually learned a thing or two with sewing curves.

I love these clothes!! I love the off the shoulder dress made by nostalgia with the fun patchwork applique that she used to create a one of kind dress. I love the vintage over-sized shirt with a black flower applique found by oh leoluca. Today has been a productive day for me. I was able to clean the house, finish up some bags, and take some photos of the bags. I had a few more ideas for some new bags so I sat down...took a breather and drew away ^_^... Started on a new pattern for a bag. I wish I could have more days like these...

Vintage Craft Book

After class I usually stop by this thrift shop before heading home. They have an arts and crafts section where they have fabrics, felt, notions, and old craft books. I found these books or craft journals from the 70's, which had so much fun and interesting things to make. I will post some of the projects that are in the books with instructions and patterns later.

Since I have a small break, I started to sew again. I made some handbags. The thing I hate the most is cutting fabric. Only if I could pay someone to do it for me...:P The joy of actually making your own, from start to finish is reward in itself. A sense of pride of what I have actually accomplished. But geez, it seems like it takes so long to finish a project.
